What this tool does

Free CSV to QIF converter online

This free CSV to QIF converter reads a bank-exported CSV locally, suggests mappings for date, payee, amount, debit, credit, memo, category and check number, then creates a tagged Quicken Interchange Format file. It previews the normalized transactions and blocks download when any source row has an invalid date, missing payee or invalid amount.

How to use it

  1. Choose a CSV or TXT export from your bank. The file is decoded and parsed only in this browser.
  2. Confirm the date, payee and amount columns, then optionally map memo, category and check number.
  3. Choose the non-investment QIF account type and review every normalized date, amount, payee and category.
  4. Download the QIF, back up the destination finance file, import it and reconcile the resulting transactions.

Common tasks

  • Convert a Date, Payee and signed Amount CSV into a bank or credit-card QIF file.
  • Map a bank statement with separate Debit and Credit columns without changing the source CSV.
  • Preserve one category or Category:Subcategory value, memo and check number for each transaction.

Privacy and local processing

Your bank CSV is read and converted to QIF by browser code on this page. File contents, filenames, column mappings and account settings are not sent to a CSV Dock application server or analytics.

QIF compatibility and import safety

Quicken's current Windows guidance says QIF can be imported into any account type. This page generates bank, cash, credit-card, asset and liability transactions, but not investment or split transactions. QIF has no FITID-style transaction identifier, so importing the same date range again can create duplicates. Read Quicken's QIF import instructions.

Review the published QIF fields and account headers. CSV Dock is not affiliated with Quicken. Quicken is a trademark of Quicken Inc.

Supported edge cases

  • US, day-first and ISO dates are supported, but ambiguous dates must be confirmed before download.
  • Currency symbols, parentheses, trailing minus signs, CR/DR suffixes and common decimal separators are normalized before amounts are rounded to cents.
  • Category:Subcategory values are retained in one QIF category field; investment records and true split transactions are not generated.
  • The file is UTF-8 without a byte-order mark. Older QIF readers designed for ASCII may not preserve Japanese or other non-ASCII text.

Frequently asked questions

Is this CSV to QIF converter free?

Yes. It runs without an account, server upload or paid conversion step on this page.

Does CSV Dock upload my bank statement?

No. The selected CSV is decoded, mapped and converted by browser code on your device. File contents and column mappings are not sent to a CSV Dock application server.

Which QIF account types can it create?

It creates Bank, Cash, Credit Card, Other Asset and Other Liability transaction files. Investment transaction records are intentionally excluded from this version.

Does it preserve categories and split transactions?

It preserves one Category or Category:Subcategory value per CSV row. It does not infer or generate QIF split-transaction groups because ordinary bank CSV files have no standard split layout.

Can importing the same QIF twice create duplicates?

Yes. QIF transaction records have no FITID-style unique identifier. Back up the destination file, confirm the target account and date range, and review the register after import.

Which conversion direction does this page support?

This page converts a bank transaction CSV or TXT file to QIF. It does not read PDF statements, parse existing QIF files or create QBO files.
